SPEAK

The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.
- James A. Garfield

My opinion on the book

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, depression is the most common mental disorder in U.S., and it can be easily seen when you read books that deal with teenage angst. As one of the first classes I’m taking since I transferred to MSU, the literature class allowed me to explore some literature I never had chance or interest to experience.
As one of the novels, SPEAK showed me the side of the story i never had chance to experience.
If you are interested in a story about a teenage girl that's going through tough and confronting it, this novel might be the book you are looking for.

This is the author talking about the poem that starts the novel with.

Words by Laurie Halse Anderson
Censoring books that deal with difficult adolescent issues does not protect anybody. Quite the opposite it leaves kids in the darkness and makes them vulnerable. Censorship is the child of fear and the father of ignorance.
Our children cannot afford to have the truth of the world withheld from them.
