The Catcher in the Rye

Reading books

Before i took this class, i was never a reader. In fact, i never liked reading. That is until i started reading the books from the literature class, and The Catcher in the Rye was the first book i got to read for the class.  The novel is more than that, however, it showed me the view of a slightly troubled teenager's life.
The novel showed me a glimpse of the life of a person with depression and possible other mental illnesses. And i believe the novel thought me the joy of reading.
I believe this book will be the first of many other novels i will read in the future.

Quotes

“Life is a game, boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rule."

Yes, sir. I know it is. I know it."

Game, my ass. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then it's a game, all right-I'll admit that. But if you get on the other side, where there aren't any hot-shots, then what's a game about it? Nothing. No game.”

The catcher in the rye is known for its relatability. For me, this quote felt true than any others out there. I'm not much of a reader. Truth is just thinking about book bored me beyond any other things out there. But this book, i have to say, changed my point of view. I never experienced what i felt reading this book before.
The book, revolves around a high school student, Holden Caulfield, who's going through a tough time after he get expelled from the high school he was attending. He drifts around without clear destination, and eventually reaches mentally unstable states.
While i was reading the book, i couldn't help myself but feel related to Holden every steps of his journey.  My high school days didn't reached the extreme he reached (not even close to it). But i remember drifting around with not even a faint goal in mind, just like Holden.

“But what I mean is, lots of time you don’t know what interests you most till you start talking about something that doesn’t interest you most. I mean you can’t help it sometimes.”
― J.D. SalingerThe Catcher in the Rye
