"Discontent is the first necessity of progress" - Thomas Edison
Depression
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, depression is the most common mental disorder in U.S., and it can be easily seen when you read books that deal with teenage angst. As one of the first classes I’m taking since I transferred to MSU, the literature class allowed me to explore some literature I never had chance or interest to experience. The books I read so far allowed me to look into numerous mental or emotional challenges I never thought about.
One of the novels i'm talking about above is The Bell Jar. The novel deals with the severe depression issue of the protagonist, Esther. In the course of reading the novel, i was able to take a glimpse of the life of people with severe depression. As far as I my knowledge reaches, to overcome depression, people have to find the source of it and confront it head on.
